The Future of the Santa Monica Civic Auditorium

The Future of the Santa Monica Civic Auditorium

This gorgeous building, which was home to the Academy Awards from 1961-1968 and a celebrated venue for countless concerts and performances (including George Carlin’s famous show with the 7 dirty words), has been essentially closed since 2013. Since then, its future use has been long debated including the possibility of demolition due to its need for costly repairs and retrofitting. If you are interested in learning about the latest thoughts on the future of this designated historic landmark, the Santa Monica Conservancy and the Santa Monica History Museum are hosting Santa Monica Mosaic: Civic Memory where a noteworthy panel will lead a discussion on that topic this Sunday, February 18, from 5:00-6:30. Perhaps I’ll see you there.
