Simple lines, simply beautiful. That’s the essence of what you’ll find in the Linn Residence by Richard Neutra in the Hollywood Hills. Neutra fans may recall that the home was sold just last year as a fixer. Now it’s back on the market and I’m happy to report that the buyer did a superb job restoring it and, thankfully, maintained the home’s original character in the process.

Perched on a hillside at the end of a long, gated driveway, the home is sited to make the most of its panoramic views of the entire San Fernando Valley.

Though it may not have designed as such, the side of the house would make the perfect outdoor cinema.

  • My parents, Ray and Margaret Linn, built this home from 1959 to its completion in January 1960. I was born that June, and grew up in this beautiful home until my parents sold it in their divorce in 1974 (in a down market, I might add!) It was an amazing home, and shaped me in my fondness for modern aesthetics. An interesting note is that even to this day, both my older brother Peter and I dream about this house and it represents “home” when we dream.

My uncle, having been in the art world since the 40’s, decided to sell an original Rothko, and went joust hunting in 1974!
Excited to find an original Richard Neutra , purchased this home! It became their personal museum, including PreColumbian artifacts, early Sterling TAXCO jewelry, numerous pieces of wall art,
If those walls could talk…..gathered in the living room, have been actors, painters, educators and plenty more!
My auntie passed first in 2006, and uncle lived on until 9/26/2011, he was 95!
I’m so sorry he never got to see it renovated, it’s lovely!
Missing is a shot looking down the hall, where it is stopped by glass and there is a small strip of planted, which continues outside the glass. It created a wonderful optical illusion!
The quality of the Nuetra experience is dramatic in the home!
You really need to walk through it!!!
