Reinhabit Reinvents a Hollywood Hills Midcentury

Prepare yourself to be seduced. Situated on a bluff and tucked away behind a very artful gate at the end of a long driveway is this beautifully re-imagined post-and-beam midcentury home with 270-degree views that will take your breath away and leave you inspired.

Thanks to an open floor plan with walls of glass that open to a massive deck, which wraps entirely around two sides of the house, the indoor/outdoor lifestyle idealized by Angelenos of all stripes doesn’t get any better than this.

‘Custom’, ‘thoughtful’, ‘detailed’, ‘original’ are among the adjectives that come to mind when describing the work of the guys at Reinhabit. But I’m pretty sure that even they would agree that the most appropriate word is ‘artistic’. And because of

‘Custom’, ‘thoughtful’, ‘detailed’, ‘original’ are among the adjectives that come to mind when describing the work of the guys at Reinhabit. But I’m pretty sure that even they would agree that the most appropriate word is ‘artistic’. And because of that, their work has a strong sense of originality to it and carries a signature that is unmistakably theirs. Right off the bat, this custom gate conveys that you are approaching something unique. The shape and colors tie in beautifully to the home, but moreover, they also conjure images of a painter’s palette. Or perhaps a Mondrian.

On the ground, the driveway is beautifully composed of smoothly poured pavers bordered by pebble-filled concrete. In addition to this area, which can accommodate four cars, the property includes a lot on Multiview that can handle 6-8 cars.

Here you can get a better peek at those tapered rafters, which are complemented by the lines of the board and batten exterior walls of the house – which is something else that I really like. The clean and simple lines of board and batten lend it a v

Here you can get a better peek at those tapered rafters, which are complemented by the lines of the board and batten exterior walls of the house – which is something else that I really like. The clean and simple lines of board and batten lend it a versatility that makes it a great choice for a multitude of home styles, from midcentury, to farmhouse, to beach bungalow. With a rad orange door and a sleek transom window, we’re styling modern here. It’s all about the lines!

Inside, the main living areas of the house feature a completely open floor plan with a post and beam ceiling and marble tiled flooring. With a wall of glass along its eastern side, the spacious living room is flooded with natural light.

Heading into the kitchen, we come to some of the design elements that really stand out for me, starting with this breakfast bar. On top is a beautiful cut of walnut whose outer edge still holds its bark. Beneath the counter are tapered supports that tie in thematically with design elements we saw on the exterior of the house. And check out the bar stools (also restored by the Reinhabit team). They’re amazing. If I were buying this house I would absolutely have them written into the deal!

The rough outline of the bark stands in beautiful contrast to the furniture quality finish of the woodwork found throughout the rest of the bar counter’s surface. And the color is gorgeous.

Forget knobs. These stylish cut-outs are fantastic.

How is this for a dining room view? If it’s not quite enough, just step out the door. You can see the breadth of the Hollywood Hills, including the Griffith Observatory and Hollywood sign, as well as Universal City the full expanse of the Valley.
