Googie architecture, with its acute angles and freeform shapes, found its start and flourished in spectacular fashion throughout Los Angeles in the 40’s and 50’s primarily in commercial structures like diners, gas stations, motels and drive-ins. But there are also plenty of residential designs that incorporate many of the same elements. This fantastic new listing on Rising Glen in the Hollywood Hills is a great example. I don’t know the architect of this home, but when looking at its roofline, I can’t help but think they were inspired by the prolific Louis Armet and Eldon Davis who had just built Johnie’s Coffee Shop on Wilshire a year earlier (and now is a Historic Cultural Monument).
