A home’s merits are often, and rightfully, attributed to the architect that designed it. But there are also homes whose wonder can be attributed to those that inhabited them. I don’t know if I’ve ever come across a home that made better use of its space, both indoors and out, than this one and does so in a manner that is practical, interesting, and artful. All in all, there is beauty and personal touch at every turn. The owners of this house LIVED here. In a transformation took place over a decade, every aspect of this home’s renovation was given great care – from the front door to the chicken coop. That’s right, chicken coop!

That alone is enough to beckon a small army of visitors at its first open house. But when you visit, you really must linger and pay attention to the details – many of which cannot be appreciated enough in these photos. For instance, the custom screen-like shelving at the far end of the living room above is composed of a series of uniquely curved planks, adding both beauty and dimension to the room.

Thanks to a picture window in the living room, which frames the lush entryway outside, one might possibly not even notice the sleek fireplace right next to it.

The kitchen is a bold blend of styles and finishes. The cabinetry and countertops are ultra contemporary, the gas stove and wallpaper are ultra vintage, and the flooring is eco-friendly cork. A Mod dining set is the perfect way to balance it all out

This bathroom alone is worthy of a blog post. Almost everything about it represents thinking that is outside the box. Rather than sheetrock and wood, the hallway wall and door that mark its entry are made of glass, whose textured surface makes it entirely opaque while still allowing a sense of space beyond it. Inside the bathroom, the wall facing the outside is also glass, this time transparent enough for the foliage outside to be enjoyed and compliment the green of the room’s finishes. And perhaps my favorite feature of the room is the sink, which juts out from the wall with exposed plumbing on the underside. That is way cool and practical at the same time.

The master bedroom, which also opens up to the deck, enjoys the same explosive views of the canyon and city as the living room.

The same tall closets also line the hallway, which leads to the other bedroom on this level.

I love the contrast of the polished concrete floors and poured concrete walls on the lower level.

The second bathroom has its own cool little touches, such as the shower being placed outdoors. On the deck, just a few steps beyond, is a retro cedar hot tub.

Rather than stopping by to ask for a cup of sugar, your neighbors are more likely to pop in and ask if you have any eggs to spare!
