A True ‘Home’ in Los Feliz

A True ‘Home’ in Los Feliz

There are many things that can rise to the top of the priority list when shopping for a house. For some, it’s a breathtaking view. Others may require good schools. And still others, like me, may rank a walk-able neighborhood as a ‘must-have’. But this 1922 Mediterranean in Los Feliz is a great reminder that what matters most is how the place feels when you’re inside of it.

Stairway at home's entry.

As soon as you enter the front door, this place feels like so much more than just a house. It feels like a true home and it’s not difficult to imagine yourself living there. One of the things that I love about it is that it retains its Mediterranean heritage while simultaneously incorporating traditional elements, such as this entry, as well as modern design finishes. And it does so brilliantly, as you’ll see.

Living room

The gorgeous main living areas feature high ceilings, hardwood floors, and a spacious open floor plan.

Sliding Fleetwood doors are the perfect choice in some homes. But in this space, the oversized, wood-framed pivoting doors that lead out to the deck are the bomb. If you move in, I’m pretty sure that everyone who visits the house for the first time will gush over them.

The dining room, which is open to the living room and kitchen on either side, has a wall of doors leading outside making it feel almost like an extension of the patio. But its best feature could easily be the beautiful wood cabinetry that lines its only real wall.

The chandelier is rad.

Kitchen with a stove island.

This kitchen is another great example of a blend of traditional and modern design and the result is kind of magical.

Family room next to kitchen.

For a home that has 3,805 square feet of living space, it feels surprisingly cozy and every inch of it is quite usable. For example, this area opposite the kitchen is perfect for entertaining guests or even just as a place to relax while waiting for a timer in the kitchen to go off.

Primary bedroom.

All of the bedrooms are located upstairs and two of them lead out to a balcony that overlooks the park-like back yard. The master suite has high ceilings and gorgeous master bath with a huge walk in closet.

View of the yard from balcony.

With a street-to-street lot on over 1/3 of an acre, mature trees, and a lagoon style pool and spa, I can’t imagine ever feeling like I need to “get away”.

Primary suite bathroom.

There is nothing old-fashioned about this bathroom. Chic is the word that I would use to describe it.

Second story landing with skylights.

A lovely vestige of this home’s past is this vintage leaded glass skylight that illuminates the entry hall below.

Situated at the end of an electric gated drive is a detached guest suite and separate studio / work office.

Swimming pool surrounded by trees.
